The Cause

Funds raised at the Sakura Gala support the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre's Legacy Campaign.

The Mission of the JCCC Legacy Campaign

The Legacy Campaign exists to raise funds in support of the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre's on-going cultural and heritage programming, and the JCCC Foundation.

Yesterday. In support of our past - to introduce the culture, history and legacy of the Japanese Canadians to all Canadians while creating a tribute to the history of the Nikkei community and their contributions to the building of our nation.

Today. In support of our present - to educate all Canadians on the importance of heritage, tolerance and cultural understanding. To create a space for Pre and Post war Japanese immigrants and their descendants to congregate, thus acting as a 'living museum' and a focal point for the community.

Tomorrow. In support of our future - to bridge generations within the Japanese Canadian community: connecting the younger generation to their roots and providing the means for the continuing evolution of the community.

The campaign aims to create funding to complete and support the JCCC as a physical entity and, at the same time, seed the Foundation that will support the on-going promotion of Japanese culture and Japanese Canadian heritage. To this end, the circular enso logo was adopted to reflect a sense of wholeness and permanence.

About the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre

Founded in 1963, the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre (JCCC) is one of the largest and most vibrant Japanese cultural centres in the world. Our mandate is to promote Japanese culture and Japanese Canadian heritage.

The JCCC offers a broad spectrum of Japanese traditional and contemporary cultural programs, martial arts, festivals, performances, film screenings, art exhibitions and other experiences for its thousands of members and hundreds of thousands of annual visitors.

The JCCC's heritage programming recognizes the sacrifices and accomplishments of the Japanese Canadian community and contributes to the evolving Nikkei experience in Canada. The lessons of cultural acceptance implicit in the story of the Japanese Canadian community are as relevant today as ever.

The JCCC is a registered charitable, not-for-profit organization.
